School Book Drive
Hello everyone!
Vicky Sycip Herrera '68 and Susie McElhaney '82 are collecting books for public elementary schools in Tagaytay.
The schools need books written in English! Schools all over the Philippines are embarking on a program to teach English.
The schools have set aside time in the day for students to read books in English. However, there are few English language books available.
Our goal is to build a collection of books for each school. Any help you can give will be very welcome!
Update from Susie Dear IS family,
Wow!! Due to your generosity, the book drive has grown tremendously! To date, we have collected close to 4,000 books! The first 1,000 are in the process of being shipped and the others will follow.
Vicky plans to classify the books by grade levels once they arrive and place them in bins. The bins can then travel from one classroom to another and also from school to school. The District Supervisor of the Tagaytay schools has already figured out how to monitor the movement.
Vicky has promised to take some photos of the children receiving the books and I will ask for permission to post them.
Should you still wish to send books, you can mail them to the address in the box on the right.
On behalf of the children of Tagaytay, I want to thank you all!! A special thank you to Jeff Becker (class of 84) who collected approximately 1,200 books and Paul Norcross (class of 82) who collected approximately 1,000 books. Also deeply appreciated are the generous monetary donations.
I will continue to keep you posted on our progress.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Susie McElhaney Costantini, ISM Class of 82.
